The civil suit was a result of a drive by-shooting incident which killed Marcus Reason. Marcus’ family was seeking damages in excess of $50,000.

Evans’ cousin, Jamar, pleaded guilty to third degree murder and weapon charges. Although Evans was the one driving at the time of the incident, he was not charged with a crime as he cooperated with the investigation.

The Kings was informed of the incident even before the 2009 NBA Draft and had no reservations in choosing him.

For being the fourth over-all draft, Evans did not fail his team. In fact, he is a leading candidate for Rookie of the Year.

Good luck, Evans!
