Lessons Not Learned: Vince Neil Guilty of 2nd DUI

Back in 1984, Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil has pleaded guilty to Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and vehicular manslaughter in a crash that killed drummer Nicholas “Razzle” Dingley.

Fast forward to 2011, the older but not necessarily wiser rocker was once again busted for DUI and pled guilty to a misdemeanor DUI.

In exchanging for pleading guilty, Neil has recently checked into the Clark County Detention Center to begin his 2-week sentence and this also includes 15 days of house arrest, completion of a DUI class, participation in an online victim’s impact panel, and a $585 fine.

While they say that old dogs can’t learn new tricks, it’s more likely that there are people (such as repeat DUI offenders) who have serious problems with alcohol. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) called them “hard-core drinking driver” – these are people who repeatedly drive while under the influence and are resistant to changing their behavior despite previous sanctions, treatments, or education. So even imposing fines and jail time, or suspension or revocation of licenses would not necessarily work to remove DUI drivers, especially if they are hard-core drinking drivers.
